As NYSAFC leaders continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and New York state directives, we will be making a determination about whether or not to proceed with the 114th Annual Conference & FIRE 2020 Expo no later than May 8. Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the most up-to-date information. As “New York State on Pause” has been extended through mid-May, numerous programs have been postponed or canceled. The 47th Annual Fire & Life Safety Educators’ Conference, co-hosted by OFPC and NYSAFC, has been canceled for 2020. NYSAFC's spring training programs have all been postponed and will be rescheduled for later this year. These include the 2020 Seminar Series “Hoarder House Fires: Our Worst Nightmare” programs in Chautauqua, Clinton, Fulton, Rensselaer, and Wyoming Counties; the "Fire/EMS Behavioral Health: The Price We Pay" workshops in Fulton, Herkimer, Schenectady, and Westchester Counties; and Regional Hands-On Training – Flashover in Orleans and Ulster Counties. Registrants can receive a refund if they are unable to attend rescheduled programs. Email education@nysfirechiefs.com with questions.
 
 
   
NYSAFC is pleased to announce an additional site for the 2020 Company Officers Leadership Training (COLT) series – Nassau County! The two-day leadership development program for company officers of all ranks will be held on October 24-25 at the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department. COLT includes lectures by Lieutenant Michael Ciampo (FDNY), Commissioner/Chief Michael Lombardo (Buffalo F.D.), and Lieutenant Robert Pressler (FDNY). Pre-registration required.

Rob Serra’s first call as a New York City firefighter was the 2001 terror attack. He’s not the kind of guy who likes to stand down. Yet, Serra’s 9/11 service left him with breathing problems and a weakened immune system – two factors that make him highly vulnerable to coronavirus.
 
Just one coronavirus infection from an emergency call is all it would take to knock the volunteer Stephentown Ambulance out of service, cutting off the quickest EMS response to residents in this rural eastern Rensselaer County town.
