White House Orders Critical Medicine Stockpile
In an Executive Order issued August 19, 2025, President Donald Trump ordered ASPR (Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response) to create a list of 26 critical medications and build a six-month supply of each. While 40% of prescription meds are made in the U.S., only 10% of critical emergency medications are made at home. This has continually put us in difficult situations treating seizures, overdoses, hypoglycemia, and allergic reactions. This Executive Order should help make life easier for EMS and hospitals. Read the text here.

Federal Resources for Prehospital Blood
While regulations are still being developed in New York, prehospital blood transfusion is becoming increasingly popular around the world. The feds recently released two resources for EMS folks interested in prehospital blood product use. The first is a link to the Prehospital Blood Transfusion Coalition, a multidisciplinary national group working to expand access to prehospital blood product use. They recently published a guideline intended to serve as a living document based on evolving evidence and best practices, which outlines the indications, procedures, equipment and monitoring required to safely administer blood products (learn more here). Additionally, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), which writes standards for blood banks in the U.S., recently released standards for Emergency Prehospital and Scheduled Out-of-Hospital Transfusions. Download these here.
