Residential Fire Sprinkler Demonstration

NYSAFC participated in a residential fire sprinkler demonstration on April 29, 2015, at the Town of Colonie Fire Training Center.

The presentation showed the outcome of two room and contents fires – one in a fire sprinkler protected unit and the other in a non-sprinklered unit.

Only 2 1/2 minutes passed from the start of the fire to flashover in the non-sprinklered structure. In comparison, it took just 21 seconds for the sprinkler head to activate in the protected structure, keeping damage to a minimum and clearly emphasizing the life saving value of residential fire sprinkler systems.

Special thanks to the Town of Colonie Fire Training Center, Verdoy Fire Department, and Pete Lattanzio of C&L Inspections and NYSAFC's Codes Committee for their assistance.
