National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 2012 Memorial Golf Tournament Heads to Rochester Area

The 6th Annual Rochester, N.Y. National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 2012 Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Deerfield Country Club in Brockport, N.Y. (Monroe County) to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

In 2004, the first National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament was held to raise awareness and to help sustain the programs of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The foundation was created by the United States Congress to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor fallen fire heroes and assist their families and co-workers.

Now in its ninth year, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament has grown to include numerous regional golf tournaments held across the country on behalf of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. These tournaments will help the foundation continue to support the families and co-workers of fallen firefighters.

In 2011, the Rochester tournament was one of 29 nationwide tournaments that raised over $300,000 for the foundation, all of which is being spent on survivor services. Rochester hosted 224 golfers and donated almost $18,000 to the cause. Some of the programs that donations help support include the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, Fire Service Survivor Conference, Fire Service Survivors Network, Scholarships, Taking Care of Our Own® Program, Local Assistance State Teams, and Everyone Goes Home® Program.
