Proposed Changes to Constitution

The first reading of the proposed changes to the NYSAFC Constitution was conducted at the membership meeting of NYSAFC on March 12, 2011. The proposed changes are as follows (brackets indicate items to be deleted and underlines indicate items to be added/changed):

ARTICLE III

Officers

Section 6. The Board of Directors [will elect one board member] shall appoint an Active Member to serve as Treasurer for a one (1) year term and shall be limited to five (5) one (1) year terms.

ARTICLE V

Membership

Section 1. The Association shall have [two (2)] three (3) membership sections: the Fire Service Section, [and] the EMS Section and the Career Chiefs Section.

Section 2. There shall be seven classifications of the Fire Service Section membership: Active, Active Life, Life, Associate, Affiliate, Honorary and Sustaining. There shall be six (6) classifications of the EMS Section membership: Active, Active Life, Life, Life Associate, Affiliate and Honorary. There shall be one (1) classification of the Career Chiefs Section: Active.

Section 3. Active members of the Fire Service Section shall consist of persons who hold or have held previously held the position of Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, Fire Commissioner, Commissioner of Public Safety, County Fire Coordinator and Deputy County Fire Coordinator. Active members of the EMS Section shall consist of persons who hold or previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Chief Operating Officer, County EMS Coordinator and Assistant County EMS Coordinator. Active members of the Career Chiefs Section shall consist of full-time Paid Chiefs who are currently serving or have served as Chief of their department.

Section 6. Associate Members shall consist of Company Line Officers, all other firefighters, EMS personnel, members of recognized fire departments or EMS provider services interested in the purposes of this Association.

The second reading will be on Thursday, June 16, 2011 during the Annual Conference General Session at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y. Voting, if necessary, will take place during the Annual Conference on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Turning Stone Resort’s Briar Room (located in the Tower Meeting Rooms).
