Finding time to meet the training requirements for New York state emergency services personnel can be a challenge. NYSAFC has teamed up with an online curriculum developer to take advantage of a recent regulation change to offer an essential training course online.

New York state certified code enforcement personnel are required to receive continuing education pursuant to 19 NYCRR 424.7 In-Service Code Enforcement Personnel Training, which states that code enforcement personnel shall annually receive a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training. Six hours of that training can now be obtained through online training presentations.

Building code officials, fire chiefs, fire marshals, and others within the building and fire service sector can now work with the convenience of an online schedule for code enforcement credits through the NYSAFC website and training program developed by Building Media, Inc. (BMI). Student progress and testing is monitored through the system and includes transmission directly to New York State for in-service credit. Students can even print their completion certificate for submission to their municipality.

The first topic to be launched, "Combustible Cable," includes five lessons: "Plenum Cable – Risk Overview" presented by Building Scientist Steve Easley, "Combustible Cable – A Growing Fire Danger" presented by Retired Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn of FDNY,
"Plenum Cable – The Code" presented by Retired Fire Marshal/Former Deputy Chief Jack Murphy, "Limited Combustible Cable" presented by Building Scientist Steve Easley & Cable Systems Design Consultant Frank Peri, and "Plenum Cable – Installation & Removal" presented by Building Scientist Steve Easley & Cabling Systems Installer Rick Foster.

As funding becomes available, more courses will be added to the online catalog. Complete information on this easy and affordable educational option is available from the NYSAFC website.
