NYSAFC Members Honored for 50 Years of Service

NYSAFC joins in honoring two members of the association who were recognized in October for 50 years of dedicated service with their departments.

On October 23, 2021, Ex-Chief Thomas McCarthy was honored for his 50 years of service with the Valhalla Fire Department (Westchester County). McCarthy joined Valhalla Fire Company #1 in 1971. He served as chief in both 1983 and 1988, and has been serving as a commissioner since 1993. McCarthy was a member of the FDNY for 25 years, retiring in 2014. He joined NYSAFC in 1982 and is a Life Member of the association. In recognition of his service, the Westchester County Board of Legislators proclaimed October 25, 2021, “Tom McCarthy Day” in Westchester County.

On October 3, 2021, Ex-Chief John Tassiello was honored for 50 years of service as a member of the New Hyde Park Fire Department (Nassau County). NYSAFC President Robert Kloepfer Jr. participated in a ceremony recognizing Tassiello, who currently serves as president of the Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County. He has been a member of NYSAFC since 2011.

NYSAFC congratulates all members who have achieved 50 years of service in 2021. Thank you for your dedication to your communities and the fire service of New York state.
