NYSAFC is pleased to announce that two scholarship awards have been presented through the association’s 2020 Scholarship Program. Congratulations to award recipients Hannah Cousins and McKenna Larrison for their outstanding academic achievement.

Scholarships are awarded annually to NYSAFC Individual Members or the spouses and children of those members who are pursuing academic advancement at the college level. The Anthony J. Messina Scholarship, presented in memory of Past President Andy Messina, is awarded to students pursuing an emergency services degree (fire science, EMS, or emergency management). The Ward A. & Janice R. Bohner Scholarship, presented in memory of longtime Executive Director Ward Bohner and his wife, Jan, is awarded to those pursuing a general course of study in any field.

Hannah Cousins (endorsed by the Syracuse Fire Department) received a Messina Scholarship award, while McKenna Larrison (endorsed by the Scarsdale Fire Department) received a Bohner Scholarship award. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of the association's Annual Conference, no formal award presentations were made this year.

NYSAFC extends special thanks to the Erie County Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Organization its contribution to the NYSAFC scholarship fund.

The 2021 Scholarship Program application will be available later this year on the NYSAFC website.
