Association's 2019 Scholarship Recipients Named

NYSAFC is pleased to announce that two scholarship awards have been presented through the association's 2019 Scholarship Program. Scholarships are awarded annually to NYSAFC Individual Members or the spouses and children of these members who are pursuing academic advancement at the college level.

The Anthony J. Messina Scholarship, presented in memory of Past President Andy Messina, is awarded to students pursuing an emergency services degree (fire science, EMS, or emergency management). The Ward A. & Janice R. Bohner Scholarship, presented in memory of NYSAFC's longtime Executive Director Ward Bohner and his wife, Jan, is awarded to those pursuing a general course of study in any field. Congratulations to the 2019 NYSAFC scholarship recipients, Cody Beckwith of the North Norwich Fire Department and Thomas Curiale of the Elsmere Fire District.

Beckwith received a Messina scholarship award during the 113th Annual Conference & FIRE 2019 Expo in Syracuse. Curiale was presented with a Bohner scholarship award during a departmental meeting in July.

NYSAFC extends special thanks to the Erie County Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Organization, Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County, and Fire Chiefs' Council of Suffolk County for their contributions to the NYSAFC scholarship fund.

The 2020 NYSAFC Scholarship Program Application is now available. Applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2020.
