Hands-On Training Announced for FIRE 2019

NYSAFC is pleased to announce the lineup of Hands-On Training programs that will be conducted during the association’s 113th Annual Conference & FIRE 2019 Expo in Syracuse, NY. Hands-On Training registration includes NYSAFC Annual Conference & FIRE 2019 Expo Full Term registration, which allows entry to exhibits and denoted education programs. Hands-On Training will be conducted on Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 at the Syracuse Fire Department Training Center, unless otherwise noted on the student registration confirmation. Classroom education programs (June 12-15) and exhibits (June 13-15) will be held at The Oncenter in downtown Syracuse, NY.

Advanced Thermal Imaging Camera Ops (8-Hour Live Fire Program)
NYSAFC Member: $335 / Non-Member: $385 / per person, per session
When was the last time you trained with a TIC? At your last fire? NYSAFC’s instructors have spent years working with thermal imagers and have found more uses than you can imagine to get the most out of your department’s TIC investment. Students will be armed with knowledge to take back to their departments to ensure that the camera is one of the first tools off the vehicle at more than just fire events.
Advanced Vehicle Extrication (8-Hour Program)
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
This program will provide a fast-paced extrication experience covering all aspects of vehicle extrication, from stabilization to plenty of tool time. Evolutions will include wheel, roof, and side resting vehicles with minimized vehicle access. Students will be challenged to use their skills to perform scenario-based extrication with victim rescues, scene hazard recognition, and mitigation.
Aggressive Interior Fire Attack (8-Hour Live Fire Program)
NYSAFC Member: $335 / Non-Member: $385 / per person, per session
This intense program will offer a unique opportunity to put your skills to work in live fire. Students will join seasoned instructors as they review techniques that are essential for survival in today’s fire environment. Skills that will be enhanced include effective and efficient hose stretches, hose loads, hoseline operation, standpipe and defensive operations. This challenging program will push you to your limits.
Fire Behavior On the Inside! (8-Hour Live Fire Program)
NYSAFC Member: $335 / Non-Member: $385 / per person, per session
This intense live fire training will provide firefighters with the rare opportunity to view changing fire conditions as aggressive interior tasks are performed. Firefighters can expect eight hours of live fire with an emphasis on heat, smoke, and air movement throughout the fire building. The effects of window failure, vent-enter-search, door control, and more will be viewed from the inside during this unique fire behavior course.
Fire Flows and Water Supply: Numbers Don’t Lie (4-Hour Program) NEW for 2019!
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
In this program, students will measure fire flows and discover what a rig is capable of on the fireground with and without additional water supply. Participants will learn how to determine the water supply capability of a department with and without hydrants, understand the true numbers to flow to accomplish goals, and use equipment to its full capability. This program will demonstrate that just because you have the equipment, it doesn’t mean you can use it.
Hoarder Fires (4-Hour Live Fire Program)
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
This program is designed to challenge both engine and truck companies in dealing with a hoarding situation under fire conditions. Each student will complete both engine and truck evolutions under heavy smoke and high heat conditions. The truck company will be placed in a scenario where they must remove an unconscious victim through a moderate to heavy hoarding environment. The engine company will advance and flow a 1¾-inch handline through an extreme hoarding environment while clearing a path for advancement of the hoseline.
Machinery Rescue Operations (8-Hour Program)
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
Whether it’s the butcher shop in town, the auto repair shop on the corner, or the farm down the road, the potential for machinery rescue incidents is everywhere. In this program, rotations will cover tool familiarization, torch use, size up, and lock-out/tag-out. Students will participate in scenarios that involve meat grinder entrapment, hand/finger entrapment, fence impalement, auger entrapment, and real machinery. You don’t have to be in a heavily industrial area to encounter these incidents.
Multifaceted Elevator Rescue (8-Hour Program)
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
You’ve been to an elevator rescue that has gone wrong. This program, conducted by one of the best elevator rescue teams in the country, will help students understand all facets of elevator rescue. Working in actual elevators, students will perform real life rescues. You’ll leave this program with the advanced knowledge required for operations in both modern and older elevators.
Rapid Intervention/FAST/Survival (8-Hour Program)
NYSAFC Member: $235 / Non-Member: $285 / per person, per session
Does the rapid intervention team concept work in your department? It all begins with self-survival techniques. In this program, students will work hard while identifying what’s working and what’s not working with the RIT/FAST programs in their departments. You’ll leave with a new outlook on the RIT/FAST/survival program, along with information that can be taken back to your department for positive change. This fast-paced and fun program will pay off in the future for your department.
Truck Company Essentials – The Tasks That Must Get Done (8-Hour Live Fire Program)
NYSAFC Member: $335 / Non-Member: $385 / per person, per session
This program will focus on the fireground truck company tasks that must be accomplished during the initial stages of structural firefighting. Students will be instructed in the principles of forcible entry, building search and rescue, the use of ground ladders, vent-enter-search tactics, as well as ventilation operations using saws and hand tools. Students will be challenged by some of the country’s leading fire instructors who have years of experience and will share various tricks of the trade, safety tips, and their vast knowledge of forcible entry, search, ventilation, and ground ladder practices.
Course prerequisites (or equivalents) for all programs:
Firefighter I OR Basic Firefighter and Intermediate Firefighter OR Firefighting Essentials and Initial Fire Attack. Each student must also provide a signed authorization letter from the chief of his/her department (sample letter will be provided with student registration confirmation). All students must be interior qualified under New York state requirements to participate in live fire training programs. PPE requirements will be provided with student registration confirmation.
