NYSAFC recently completed its educational series, Firefighter Best Practices – A Model Program. The 2.5-hour program focused on the recommendations for firefighter and officer training that were issued in 2016 by the New York State Department of Labor in conjunction with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. It covered the basics of the recommendations, provided examples of sample training programs, and addressed some of the most frequently asked questions about compliance with the guidelines. It also offered participants a chance to share their own experiences in meeting the recommendations and learn from each other.

Firefighter Best Practices – A Model Program trainings were held in 12 counties: Albany, Chautauqua, Essex, Genesee, Herkimer, Otsego, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Steuben, Tompkins, and Wyoming. Lexipol funded the 2017-2018 series, which ultimately reached almost 700 firefighters, fire officers, training officers, and commissioners.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to this program, NYSAFC has decided to continue it in an additional 12 locations. The association is pleased to announce that PERMA will be generously supporting the upcoming trainings, which will be held from October 2018 - March 2019. These trainings will continue to be free of charge for participants, but each site will be limited to 60 participants. Watch the NYSAFC website for new dates and locations, which will be announced in summer 2018!
