911 Law Enacted
Congress passed Kari's Law, which was signed by President Donald Trump on February 16, 2018, prohibiting any installation or use of a multi-line business phone system unless such system is enabled with ability to dial into the public 911 system. The law is named for a woman who was killed while her daughter tried without success to call 911 on the building multi-line phone system. Details on the bill and law are available here.

Preliminary LVMPD Shooting Report Released
The Las Vegas Municipal Police Department released a preliminary report on the October 1, 2017, mass shooting. The report is not intended to be a comprehensive report, but was released because of early investigative details demonstrating that the shooter attempted to ignite fuel tank(s) as a central part of his plan. A second window was to have been specifically smashed out to give a line of fire to the tanks, and that window was in a second room that the shooter took the trouble to procure and secure. Ignition of one or more of these tanks would have increased the spectacular nature of the incident, and possibly driven more victims toward his primary field of fire. LVMPD believes this is well worth a read in terms of insights to terrorist pre-incident activities and responder considerations. No motive has yet been determined. The full preliminary report can be accessed here.
