DHS "Stop the Bleed" Program
Homeland Security rolled out a "Stop the Bleed" website and public information campaign to train civilians to intervene in cases of severe hemorrhage. The website contains posters, videos, links, and instructions on management of major bleeding, all in easy to understand steps. Bleeding is a major cause of death in mass shootings, bombings, and other serious incidents.
 
Dr. Don Doynow to Chair SEMAC    
Dr. Don Doynow, an emergency medicine physician at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany and Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, has been named chairman of the New York State Emergency Medical Advisory Council by New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker. Doynow has a long record of service in the REMO region, is a well-respected physician, and continues to maintain his paramedic certification. He will succeed current SEMAC Chair Dr. Tim Haydock from the Hudson Valley/Westchester region, who has decided to retire after 30 years of State Council service.

Mike McEvoy, Ph.D., NRP, RN, CCRN is the EMS coordinator for Saratoga County, a paramedic supervisor for Clifton Park-Halfmoon Ambulance Corps, a firefighter and the chief medical officer for West Crescent Fire Department. He works in the Cardiac Surgical ICUs at Albany Medical Center and teaches critical care medicine at Albany Medical College.
