By Chief Thomas Bierds,
NYSAFC Rockland County Regional Representative

At the Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association meeting held at the Pearl River Hook & Ladder Company on September 19, 2013, the Pearl River Fire Department was presented with an "Honor Award" for their heroic service during Hurricane Sandy on October 29, 2012.

The Pearl River Fire Department, along with the Rockland County Regional Technical Rescue and Pearl River Ambulance, responded to a large tree on a house with structural collapse and people trapped. The units worked together to stabilize the situation, gain access, and assist in removing the occupants. Sadly, one of the occupants died during the collapse.
