The 7th Annual 2013 Rochester Area National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013, and Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Deerfield Country Club in Brockport, N.Y.

Last year’s tournament sold out with 232 golfers and more golfers on a waiting list. This year, a second day has been added so everyone will have an opportunity to golf and help raise money for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

This year, the tournament will recognize and pay tribute to West Webster Fire Department Past Chief Michael Chiapperini and Firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka. On Christmas Eve while arriving on scene for a working structure fire, they were ambushed and shot to death. The tournament will also recognize Firefighter Walter Hauser of the Rochester Fire Department who passed away from serious injuries he suffered during a fire in 1981 after he repeatedly entered a burning stairwell in Midtown Plaza to help rescue fellow firefighters. As in past years, all proceeds from the golf tournament will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in the names of the fallen heroes that will be recognized.

These funds are used to support the foundation in its mission to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty, provide resources for surviving family members, and prevent future fire service fatalities. The money also will help endow scholarships and job training for the spouses, children, and stepchildren of fallen firefighters and will enable the foundation to provide logistical and emotional support to both volunteer and career departments when coping with a line of duty fatality from within their ranks. Additional financial support also empowers the foundation to commit significant resources toward the "Everyone Goes Home®" program, a comprehensive initiative focused on the prevention of future firefighter deaths and casualties.
