Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano named Dr. Glen Asaeda to replace Dr. John Freese as FDNY EMS chief medical director. Asaeda will oversee the FDNY Office of Medical Affairs (OMA).

He later served as a 911 dispatcher, EMT and paramedic before graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1993. Asaeda completed his emergency medicine residency at Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center. He joined the FDNY in 1998 as an EMS fellow and has been the division medical director for Brooklyn and Staten Island. Asaeda is currently the assistant medical team manager for the New York Task Force Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR).
