Few options for meeting professionals tick these boxes like Native American casino resorts. Tribal gambling has come a long way since Florida’s Seminole Tribe opened a no-frills bingo hall in the early 1980s to help compensate for painful Reagan-era federal budget cuts to Native American reservations. It wasn’t until 1987 that the Supreme Court officially legalized gambling by tribes on their own lands.

Today, tribal casinos, many with award-winning resorts boasting excellent meeting facilities, have become a $39 billion industry for 243 tribes in 29 states.

Report: Revenue Strategy Lacking at Many Associations

Substantial proportions of associations are struggling to meet revenue targets, according to a new survey, and lack the budget strategy infrastructure that might improve their fortunes.

The Association Business Development Landscape Report, released last month by Professionals for Association Revenue (PAR), reports that less than half of association executives said they will meet their budget targets for membership (48 percent) and nondues meeting sponsorship (48 percent). Even fewer said they’ll meet targets for attendee registration (41 percent) and exhibits (39 percent). The report was based on a survey of 100 association executives conducted over 18 months.

Mentoring programs vary in terms of scope and goals and come with unique challenges, but no matter what form they take, they prove beneficial to organizations, as well as mentors and mentees.

When it comes to association mentoring programs, one size does not fit all.

Members of ASAE’s Marketing Professionals Advisory Council’s mentoring subcommittee interviewed seven association leaders about their mentoring programs. Interviewees came from different industries, worked on both new and well-established mentoring efforts, and had programs that served 30 to several hundred participants in each cycle. Most programs ranged from six to 12 months in length, but one took a one-and-done approach matching mentors and mentees for a single 30- to 60-minute session. All agreed that challenges aside, the effort is worth it.

The Commonwealth also acts as a Plan Fiduciary, so the organizations enrolled in the Plan don’t have to shoulder most of that role. This makes the CORE Plan an easy way for nonprofit leaders to offer their employees a quality, affordable benefit, without having to take on a lot of extra work. Employees are a nonprofit organization’s greatest asset. Offering a retirement plan is an effective way to attract, retain, and reward key talent.

The Ocean Park volunteer board is seeking a new Executive Director of the Ocean Park Association. This executive role is an exciting and fulfilling full-time year-round position with an active ten-week summer season of community events.
