We are conducting an exclusive study around PSAP technology and Next Generation 9-1-1 tools and need your expertise!

The ask is simple – please complete a 20-minute survey on your PSAP’s technology usage and plans for the future. We will be sending the survey link to select members on Monday in a separate email.

In return for your participation, you will receive a summary of the study’s findings and a $50 donation will be made on your behalf to Friends of 9-1-1. NENA’s Friends of 9-1-1 program provides scholarships, continuing education opportunities, and wellness programs for America's 9-1-1 professionals.

What PSAPs Need to Know for the Upcoming Launch of the RapidSOS One-Touch-911 Mobile App
Sponsored by RapidSOS
Thursday, December 3 | 1PM Eastern (live) or On-Demand
Free! Click here to register!

RapidSOS is an emergency technology start-up with the mission of bringing more accurate and richer data from mobile devices to the PSAP. They’ve spent the past several years working closely with the 9-1-1 community to develop the ability to push precise location and more through existing systems (e.g., ANI/ALI), without any cost or additional equipment at PSAPs. Over the last four months they’ve conducted test calls across all 50 states, and are preparing to launch in early 2016. They are partnering with some of Silicon Valley’s most famous technology firms to drive broad adoption in 2016.

During this webinar, the RapidSOS team will discuss their upcoming consumer launch, give an overview on how calls from the application will flow into your PSAP, and answer questions that were raised through an extensive PSAP testing program over the last few months. Presenters will also provide details on how you can sign up for additional testing at your PSAP and get early access to the mobile application.

Can't attend on the 3rd? Register now and you will have access to the on-demand webinar archive via the registration landing page.

Webinar Access Info
Dial-in and web-access details will be provided to attendees via email automatically upon registration.

OPS UPDATE
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has developed informational web-based videos relating to the Rail Safety for Law Enforcement and Emergency Dispatcher Training. FRA has developed these web-based informational programs to improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of first responders when assessing and responding to rail-related incidents, highlighting key points such as:
  • Locating an incident
  • How to determine which railroad to notify
  • How to stop a train in an emergency
  • How to locate the train crew and victims
  • How to locate railroad personnel and railroad documents
  • Determining the appropriate response
These videos can be found at FRA's homepage under "In the Spotlight." The direct links to the videos are:

NENA currently supports an NG9-1-1 Security (NGSEC) Working Group (WG). This group has delivered several documents defining how to protect NG9-1-1 Core Services (NGCS) and PSAPs from malicious and non-malicious attacks. Those efforts have proven useful in early NG9-1-1 deployments.

The next efforts of this Working Group will include documenting "Cybersecurity Playbooks" for various levels of 9-1-1/public safety participants, identifying best practices, and supporting training and education.

NENA welcomes interested members to participate in the NG9-1-1 Security Working Group. Participation is open to NENA members who have a strong interest in or experience in this issue, and we encourage members from both technical and operational perspectives. We also welcome NENA members who currently serve other NENA Working Groups such as i3 architecture, ESInet design, and PSAP ops.

A new Class of Service Working Group has been organized to address changes that may be required within NENA documents to support emerging call types and the appropriate Class of Service (COS) values to identify them. The WG will begin, initially, on a review of COS within the context of E9-1-1 and recommend changes to impacted NENA documentation.  Once complete with this initial process, the WG will then consider the importance of COS within the context of NG9-1-1 and recommend any changes to relevant NG9-1-1 documentation.

The NG9-1-1 Call Processing Metrics Working Group is creating a NENA standard that specifies NG9-1-1 processing metrics. These metrics are traditionally considered to be defined time spans between pairs of processing events that can be used in reporting and analysis. Examples would be the time between two steps in call processing, or the time between a database query and the received response.

Skills needed include:
  • PSAP and dispatch operations management experience
  • Familiarity with i3 architecture
  • Experience designing Public Safety call handling technology
  • Experience writing technical standards
