NENA NEWS
Earlier this week you received an email from NENA with a link to your 2015 NENA dues notice. Help NENA go green and save a stamp by choosing to pay online by check or credit card. If this is not an option for you or your agency, the email also contained a link allowing you to print out a copy of your invoice for local processing.

Instantly renew your membership online in just a few easy steps:
1) Simply log in to the NENA website.
2) Go to your Manage Profile page.
3) Click on Membership under the "Account History" header to view your renewal options.
4) Pay online by check or credit card.
5) Print out a receipt for your records.

In appreciation of your continued support, when you renew online by credit card before Dec. 31, 2014, you will receive free access to an upcoming NENA webinar of your choice - a $50 value!

We look forward to sharing many new and exciting member benefits with you in the coming year!

Attendees of our conference are always looking for new and better ways of doing things in their professional and personal lives. Feedback from previous conferences shows that attendees expect to walk out of each breakout with key takeaways that are new and can be immediately implemented when they return to their offices.

This is where we want your help. The NENA 2015 Conference Team is looking for session proposals in the following topic areas: Accessibility; Analytics & Big Data; Applications & Technology Innovation; Call Taking & Processing; Cybersecurity; Data Management & Utilization; GIS; Hiring & Staffing; Interpersonal Issues; Leadership & Management; Next Generation 9-1-1; Personal & Professional Development; Preparedness & Contingency Planning; PSAP Administration; Public Education & Outreach; Regulation, Policy, & Governance; Stress, Health, & Wellness; Text Messaging; Training; and Wireless Challenges.

To ensure your submission receives due consideration, please ensure that:
  • Your proposal is issue focused, not product focused;
  • Your 65-word presentation description contains a precise objective and a clear audience takeaway; and
  • You use proper grammar, capitalization and punctuation.
Submit your great ideas by Oct. 31. The online submission form for session abstracts is available at www.nena.org/nena2015/cfp. You can email Chris Nussman with any questions you may have.

OPS UPDATE
The NENA Succession Planning Information Document provides PSAPs and governing 9-1-1 authorities with information to identify and plan for changes in critical tasks positions. The unique nature of Communications Centers/PSAPs means that no Operational Document can fully capture the needs of all PSAPs. This document is intended to provide guidance and is not intended to be all-encompassing.

The NENA NG9-1-1 Policy Routing Rules Operations Guide assists 9-1-1 Governing Authorities in using Policy Routing Rules (PRRs) during the full life cycle of a NG9-1-1 System. The document provides considerations and recommendations to 9-1-1 Governing Authorities implementing NG9-1-1 systems during the Request For Information (RFI) and Request For Proposals (RFP) used to select a vendor, through the implementation phase where PRRs are initially established, to the steady-state operations of a NG9-1-1 System where PRRs are refreshed and refined. Using the information in this document, the reader will be able to take full advantage of the power of PRRs defined in the NG9-1-1 Standards referenced. This document is intended for staff of 9-1-1 Governing Authorities and PSAPs with a baseline understanding of NG9-1-1. Reading the reference documents listed in Section 4 is helpful, but is not a requirement to use this document.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has posted Interim Guidance for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems and 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for Management of Patients with Known or Suspected Ebola Virus Disease in the United States online at the CDC website.

Coordination among PSAPs, the EMS system, health care facilities and the public health system is important for a coordinated response to Ebola. Each 9-1-1 and EMS system should seek the involvement of an EMS medical director to provide appropriate medical oversight. The guidance provided in this document is based on current knowledge of Ebola. It is intended for 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points, EMS and medical first responders including firefighters and law enforcement personnel. The guidance is not intended to set forth mandatory requirements or establish national standards.

TECH UPDATE
When developing and deploying technical standards that employ enumerations, or lists of values, where the enumeration or lists can reasonably be expected to change over time as new technology, vendors, service providers or other stakeholders evolve, a known stable way to maintain the current acceptable values in the enumeration or list is required. The values in the enumeration or list are called a registry. This document describes how registries are created and maintained in NENA.

Click here to review the standard and here to access the NENA Registry System.
