The NENA Information Document for GIS Data Stewardship for Next Generation 9-1-1 will assist GIS and PSAP staff in understanding and adopting best practices related to managing specific GIS data layers in support of Next Generation 9‑1‑1 (NG9‑1‑1) deployments. GIS data is at the heart of NG9‑1‑1 systems. Civic addresses associated with fixed caller locations are validated against GIS data to ensure that they can be mapped. When an emergency call is made, it is routed using the caller’s location along with the GIS boundaries of responder agencies to determine the correct responder. Click here to download the document and submit comments by selecting "Add a Comment" from the "Document Actions" icon. Please complete all requested data and click "Save," or if submitting multiple comments, click "Save and Add Another." If you are providing editorial comments, such as corrections to typos, grammatical errors, style/numbering errors, and incorrect references/links to documents, please document them under one comment and list the page and line number for each. All comments are due by November 18, 2022. You may contact the NENA Committee Resource Manager with any questions or concerns. Washington Briefing
The Office of EMS and the National 911 Program—housed within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)—encourage 9-1-1 professionals to provide input on the second draft of proposed rulemaking for the Annual Highway Safety Grant Program. The DOT’s National Roadway Safety Strategy describes the major actions the DOT will take to significantly reduce fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways, including specific references to the important role EMS and 9-1-1 systems play in these efforts. These actions are funded through this grant program which awards more than $630 million annually to carry out highway safety programs nationwide. NHTSA has published a Request for Comment (RFC) in the Federal Register to solicit feedback on the proposed rulemaking for the Highway Safety Grant Program. The RFC will be open for comment until October 31, 2022. Submit comments here. Volunteers Wanted
