Association Business

The new president of NENA: The 9-1-1 Association is a nearly-three-decade veteran of 9-1-1 operations in Florida, with a passion for collaboration and tackling big challenges.

Laurie Anderson, ENP, is the 9-1-1 Coordinator at the Charlotte County (FL) Sheriff's Office. She and the rest of the new 2022-2023 Board of Directors were sworn in on June 15 at the NENA 2022 Conference and Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. Anderson now leads the organization’s more than 18,000 members in advancing NENA’s mission to improve 9-1-1 through research, standards development, training, education, outreach, and advocacy.

In remarks to the conference, Anderson emphasized the need for 9-1-1 professionals to support their peers. "I want you to remember the challenges you have faced in your career," she said. "Remember the hardships and pay it forward. Assist those who are new to our profession. Help your colleagues learn, excel, and lead.  Let them know that the challenges that they are facing today can be overcome by embracing challenges and working through them."

Document Announcements

The ANSI-approved Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) Vehicle Emergency Data Set (VEDS) Standard provides a standardized data set to deliver vehicle and incident data to emergency communication centers and responders. AACN calls, also called telematics calls, are emergency calls placed by vehicles or Telematic Service Providers (TSPs), initiated either automatically or manually, providing voice communication and simultaneously conveying telematics data. This standard is version 3.1 of VEDS and includes data field prioritization and other enhancements.

The NENA i3 Standard for Next Generation 9‑1‑1 specifies how Next-Generation AACN (NG-AACN) calls are initiated, identified and processed. In an NG-AACN call, VEDS arrives with the call set-up, eliminating delay, simplifying handling of such calls and reducing the training burden. The timely and accurate dispatch of medical assistance can shorten time-to-treat, reducing the risk of morbidity and mortality. VEDS speeds up analysis of crash or other vehicle incident severity, allowing for faster and more accurate dispatch. For example, VEDS allows assessment of the likelihood of severe injury (based on CDC data), the number of passengers, etc.

The NG9-1-1 Call Processing Metrics Standard defines normalized NG9‑1‑1 call processing metrics for computing useful statistics so that independent implementations can derive the same comparable measurements. It has been updated to support the implementations of NG9-1-1 Call Processing Metrics consistent with the NENA i3 Standard for Next Generation 9-1-1 and to add metrics from the soon-to-be-released Conveyance of EIDO Standard.
