A new standard is being created by the Monitoring Association that will enhance information delivered to PSAPs for alarm calls for service. The intent of the standard is to assist call-takers in determining the urgency, accuracy, and confidence level of alarm calls for service. This additional information could easily impact officer safety, increase the ability to apprehend criminals, and reduce unnecessary alarm dispatches. The Monitoring Association seeks PSAP leaders to take this ten-minute survey comprised of simple, multiple-choice questions to assist in the development of the standard. Document Announcements
The NENA Spoofing Mitigation Information Document addresses operational as well as technical impacts associated with applying information spoofing mitigation techniques to 9‑1‑1 calls and emergency callbacks. Specifically, this document discusses the need for spoofing mitigation to be addressed in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to influence call handling and/or to support post-processing associated with emergency calls, depending on the jurisdiction. For example, SOPs must clearly define how SHAKEN-related information (e.g., attestation level) will be displayed to PSAP call takers and describe how the information should be used in the course of handling an emergency call. SOPs should also provide guidance with respect to how an agency will prioritize and handle calls of different attestation levels relative to other calls occurring around the same time. This document addresses spoofing mitigation associated with 9-1-1 calls and callback calls in an all-IP environment. The NENA Standard for Interconnecting Emergency Services IP Networks and Public Safety Broadband Networks contains specifications and information critical to interconnecting Emergency Services IP networks (ESInets) to Public Safety Broadband Networks (PSBNs) in a way that maximizes interoperability on both sides of the network boundary. In the context of this document, ESInets may exist at the state, regional, or local agency level. The term "PSBN" is used to refer to any broadband network that is hosting Public Safety responder devices and applications. The interconnection issues covered in this document are the same regardless of the specific ESInet or PSBN being connected. The solutions for some issues, however, are highly implementation dependent. This document provides information and advice on those types of issues. The number of ENPs continues to increase – clearly indicating the value of becoming an ENP in today’s 9-1-1 environment. Join those who have become 9-1-1 leaders in their PSAPs, and at chapter, state, and national levels. Now is the time to sign up for the July testing window. You have a choice of going to one of many nearby testing centers, all conforming to COVID precautions, or testing remotely. The Summer 2021 testing window is July 10-24, with June 11 being the last day to submit an application. The next examination period will be in October, with applications due by September 3. FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel recently announced the appointment of NENA's PSAP Operations Director, April Heinze, ENP, as one of 17 members to the Commission’s newly created 911 Strike Force, which will meet for the first time on June 3, 2021. Acting Chairwoman Rosenworcel announced the creation of the Strike Force on February 17, 2021, and charged the group with studying the problem of 9-1-1 fee diversion—that is, the practice by some states and jurisdictions of using the 9-1-1 fees consumers pay on their phone bills for non-9-1-1 purposes—and reporting to Congress on how the Federal government can end this practice. Formally known as the "Ending 9-1-1 Fee Diversion Now Strike Force," the 911 Strike Force was established pursuant to the Don’t Break Up the T-Band Act of 2020. The first public meeting will be held on June 3, 2021, and the 911 Strike Force must publish its findings by September 23, 2021. Also pursuant to the legislation, the Commission proposed new rules in February to address 9-1-1 fee diversion. Additional information about the 911 Strike Force is available here. Volunteers Wanted
