NENA’s Next Generation 9-1-1 Industry Collaboration Event (ICE) series provides the opportunity for 9-1-1 equipment and service providers to come together to test products and services in an open, supportive, and collaborative environment. The next event in the series, ICE 9, will break new ground in that it will be a joint event held in conjunction with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). ICE 9 will take place concurrently with the NG112 Plugtests #4, hosted by EENA and ETSI. ICE 9/Plugtests #4 will focus on the testing of emergency communications session (ECS) routing across international borders. ECS’s may contain voice, images, video, and/or text. ICE 9 may also separately test the newly-operationalized PSAP Credentialing Agency (PCA), specifically, the security advantages the PCA offers.

NENA and EENA/ETSI invite all interested vendors that have a stake in improving global access to emergency services to participate in ICE 9 and Plugtests #4. NGCS vendors, Forest Guide developers, user agent and mobile app providers, and call handling vendors should consider participating in this event and in the activities of the ICE 9 or Plugtests #4 planning committees, both of which will be convened in the near future.

The National Police Foundation, with support from The Starbucks Foundation and The Motorola Solutions Foundation, is pleased to announce the National First Responder COVID-19 Grant Relief Program. This program will allow first responders and survivors of first responders in underserved communities an opportunity to request a grant to reimburse select COVID-19 related expenses, such as mental health and wellness costs, (i.e., counseling services, suicide prevention), unanticipated dependent care, disinfecting services, and similar costs. These micro-grants may be awarded in an amount up to $1,000.

First responders or family members interested in applying for a grant can review eligibility and apply here by October 28.

As NENA continues to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have developed a list of resources for members, chapters, and the greater 9-1-1 community.

Information provided covers the most basic tenets of a peer support program, but also references expansions or enhancements the reader may use if they have the available resources and/or means.

The NENA Standard for the Implementation of the Wireless Emergency Service Protocol E2 provides explicit protocols and parameters for interoperable operation of the E2 interface over TCP/IP. This interface is between the Mobile Positioning Center (MPC)/ Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC) and the Emergency Services Message Entity (ESME) as defined in ANSI/J-STD-036-C-2-2017 (e.g., an Automatic Location Identification [ALI] system or a Legacy Network Gateway [LNG]). This standard also specifies implementation details not specified in ANSI/J-STD-036-C-2-2017 down to explicit elements so that there can be no confusion regarding how parameters are to be implemented.

To download the document and submit comments go here and then select "Add a Comment" from the "Document Actions" icon. Complete all requested data and "Save," or, if submitting multiple comments, select "Save and Add Another."
