NENA is launching a new program aimed at promoting greater diversity and inclusion throughout the nation’s 9-1-1 organizations.

The Diversity in 9-1-1 Leadership Program will equip new and diverse voices with the skills, knowledge, and training necessary to advance to upper-level positions in 9-1-1 agencies and become leaders in the 9-1-1 community.

With support from RapidDeploy, OnStar, Microsoft, GeoComm, and Esri, the initial investment will provide more than three dozen scholarships to NENA’s multi-day leadership and management courses, with a goal of facilitating the advancement of under-represented populations within the 9-1-1 community. Additional sponsors are invited to join the effort.

The scholarships will help increase the number of diverse participants in NENA’s three flagship education offerings: the Center Manager Certification Program; Center Supervisor Program; and Center Training Officer Program. The scholarship program will be administered jointly by NENA’s Education Advisory Board and its Diversity & Inclusion Special Committee.

Hosted by actor Luke Wilson, Emergency Call is a daring, new hour-long show documenting the first few crucial minutes of emergencies told through the lens of America’s heroic 9-1-1 call takers. The series is set to premiere Monday, September 28 at 10:00PM EDT on ABC.

Emergency Call follows the dramatic moments leading up to the arrival of help rather than the events after the firefighters, police, or emergency medical services teams arrive, and focuses on the extreme, suspenseful and sometimes humorous stories that flood 9-1-1 call centers.

These micro-grants may be awarded in an amount up to $1,000.

First responders or family members interested in applying for a grant can review eligibility and apply here by September 30.

As NENA continues to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have developed a list of resources for members, chapters, and the greater 9-1-1 community.

NENA's COVID-19 resource page contains items including PSAP-guidance documents, EMD protocols, on-demand webinars, CoOPs and planning checklists, event-planner assistance, public education graphics, health and hygiene best practices, and many more resources to support you and your work during this ever-evolving situation. This page is updated with new information as it becomes available.

Do you have or know of other resources that should be posted? If so, you can contact NENA Communications Director Chris Nussman.

As of September 30, 2020 the legacy NENA PSAP Registry (NPR) database will be retired and replaced with a new product, the NENA Enhanced PSAP Registry and Census (EPRC). All current NPR users must set up a new EPRC account ASAP to ensure uninterrupted access to nationwide PSAP contact information. If you already have your account, then please log in and ensure your PSAP information is current and accurate.

The EPRC improves upon the NPR by incorporating Esri’s powerful ArcGIS platform to create a secure, searchable, browser-based online map viewer and API for locating a PSAP anywhere in the United States. EPRC users can search for PSAPs by PSAP name, street address, latitude and longitude, community name, map area, or PSAP characteristic.

Click here for more information on how to use the NENA EPRC online database viewer.

If you have EPRC credentials but are unable to access the EPRC database viewer, or if you forgot your credentials, please contact eprc_support@geo-comm.com.
