Congratulations to the twenty-eight 9-1-1 professionals who passed the summer 2019 ENP exam and are now certified Emergency Number Professionals! Well done!

This past year we've certified a record number of new ENPs – 9-1-1 professionals from the public- and private-sectors who are committed to excellence in the industry and are the leaders of today and tomorrow. Becoming an ENP demonstrates your knowledge of 9-1-1, helps you grow in your career, and expands your professional network. If you meet the eligibility requirements, then start planning to sit for the ENP exam; the fall testing period is October 5-19, with the application window closing on September 6. Need some help getting ready? A study group, reference manual, and/or practice test can help you along your path to certification!

GeoComm is excited to present Public Safety Grade GIS for NG9-1-1 – Strategies for Success on Tuesday, September 24 at 2:00PM Eastern. It is fast becoming a reality that public-safety grade GIS data will be needed to support NG9-1-1 because consistent and accurate GIS data is at the core of the NG9-1-1 call routing process. It is essential to properly direct calls to the correct PSAP and share the GIS data used by 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers to locate incidents and dispatch first responders. Featuring industry experts and GeoComm subject matter experts Deb Rozeboom, ENP, PMP, GISP and Kathy Liljequist, GISP, this webinar will:

  • Provide a detailed look at what it means to achieve Public-Safety-Grade GIS Data
  • Discuss overcoming the challenges local GIS departments may face when supporting NG9-1-1 functionality
  • Outline the responsibilities required for an on-going Public Safety Grade GIS Data maintenance program that meets requirements outlined in best practices and standards documentation such as the NENA Standard for NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model

Document Announcements

NENA's GIS Template Working Group is pleased to announce the availability of its DRAFT GIS data templates for public review and consideration. The GIS templates are a direct interpretation of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model.

The primary purpose of the GIS data templates is as a common data structure for data exchange between agencies or their vendors. Before the GIS Template Working Group publishes its final deliverables, it is interested in hearing from any agency willing to extract, transform, or load (ETL) their GIS data into one of these templates. The working group is particularly interested in hearing about any complications, challenges, limitations or other problems associated with the ETL process.

There are four files provided as part of this public review period and are combined into this zip file. First, two scripts the GIS Template Working Group used to create the GIS data templates are being provided (i.e. .sql & .py). While the scripts are not, technically speaking, the official deliverables of the working group, the working group felt it was important to be open about how the GIS template deliverables were created. Second, two GIS data template structures are being provided. One data template structure is provided as a Esri File Geodatabase which the user will need to first extract. The other data template structure is provided as a PostgreSQL database dump file.

The GIS Template Working Group would appreciate your review by Friday, September 13. Contact Jason Horning with any questions or comments.
