NENA is now accepting applications for the second cohort of the Transformative Empowerment and Mentoring (TEAM) Program, taking place this spring and summer! Participants in this six-month long program receive personalized guidance, support, and inspiration that empowers them to achieve personal and professional growth.

"Being a mentor is one of the most fulfilling, impactful, and meaningful things one person can do for another," said NENA TEAM Program Co-Chair, Laurie Anderson, ENP. "This program helps the 9-1-1 leaders of tomorrow grow, flourish, and reach their full potential."

The William E. Stanton Award is NENA's highest honor. It is bestowed upon an individual who has not only excelled in his or her everyday job, but has gone above and beyond to further NENA's goals. Nominations for this prestigious annual award are now open.

NENA has established a scholarship program to honor the commitment of William "Bill" McMurray, ENP, Past President, to the mission of NENA and 9-1-1 education. The scholarship will be awarded for the NENA 2025 Conference & Expo, and covers the conference registration fee and four nights of lodging at a conference hotel (to be determined by NENA upon awarding of scholarship). Travel expenses to and from the conference and meals are not included in this award.

An ENP scholarship opportunity is now available to current NENA members who meet the eligibility requirements for ENP Certification and plan to sit for the exam in 2025 or early 2026.

Each scholarship recipient will receive complimentary registration to take the ENP exam during the Summer 2025, Fall 2025, or Winter 2026 examination period.

Candidates must complete and submit the online application by Friday, March 28. Scholarship winners will be notified by Friday, April 18.

Association Business

NENA's Chief Executive Officer provides leadership for all aspects of the Association’s operations, with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit, staff and program area deliverables, and sound fiscal management. This position represents the Association before a variety of federal agencies and businesses both domestic and international. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and staff. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a management or leadership role, strong managerial and financial skills, and experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and Congress.

The Monitoring Association (TMA) Standards Committee has received confirmation from ANSI that the Public Comment Period for its TMA-ATN-01 Monitoring Center Notification of Active Threat Detection is officially open through April 1, 2025.

The standard outlines a uniform approach to handling active threat events, acknowledges, integrates various detection technologies, and provides detailed guidelines on record-keeping, data management, and process monitoring. The goal of this standard is to significantly enhance the synergy between the security industry and public safety, fostering a safer environment through more informed and rapid responses to active threats.

Volunteers Wanted

NENA seeks volunteers to help update the NENA Staffing Guidelines documents. The scope includes modernizing recruitment and retention strategies, updating obsolete PSAP Staffing Guidelines, exploring workforce management tools, and leveraging data-driven decision-making. The working group needs operational and technical subject matter experts, including:

  • 9-1-1 personnel, including dispatchers, supervisors, and administration;
  • Industry partners, including those in the private sector involving technology, consulting, and training;
  • Data scientists; and
  • Researchers.

The working group will meet every other Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern starting March 20, 2025.

NENA seeks volunteers to assess the NENA E9-1-1 PSAP Equipment Standard and determine if this ANSI-approved standard should be reaffirmed or revised and to support the document to publication. The working group needs operational and technical subject matter experts in the User, Producer, and General Interest categories, as defined in Section 3 Document Development Process of the NENA Development Operational Procedures. Specifically, volunteers are sought with:

  • PSAP and dispatch operations management experience;
  • Experience designing Public Safety technology;
  • Experience designing and managing IP networks;
  • Familiarity with inter-agency communications; and/or
  • Experience writing technical requirements.
Meetings are held on Mondays from 2:00PM - 3:00PM Eastern.
