Deadline Approaches for Public Safety Input on Proposed Rulemaking for Annual Grant Program

The Office of EMS and the National 911 Program—housed within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)—encourage 9-1-1 professionals to provide input on the second draft of proposed rulemaking for the Annual Highway Safety Grant Program.

The DOT’s National Roadway Safety Strategy describes the major actions the DOT will take to significantly reduce fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways, including specific references to the important role EMS and 9-1-1 systems play in these efforts. These actions are funded through this grant program which awards more than $630 million annually to carry out highway safety programs nationwide.

NHTSA has published a Request for Comment (RFC) in the Federal Register to solicit feedback on the proposed rulemaking for the Highway Safety Grant Program. The RFC will be open for comment until October 31, 2022.
