On January 13, NENA announced that Brooks Shannon has joined the NENA staff as the association’s Interoperability Program Manager.

In his new role, Shannon oversees several initiatives vital to the success of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). He provides support to the NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission, which is the independent oversight governance body for the NG9-1-1 Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Forest Guide, and other technical interoperability services necessary for interoperability and security in NG9 1 1 in North America and beyond. Further he manages the vendors contracts for the PSAP Credentialing Agency (PCA) - the root authority designated to issue and revoke security credentials to authorized 9-1-1 agencies in an i3-compliant infrastructure - and the Forest Guide - a LoST server that serves as an authoritative set of routing instructions in NG9-1-1. Finally, Shannon oversees other NENA interoperability projects, principally the Enhanced PSAP Registry and Census (EPRC), the map-centric database tool that allows 9-1-1 telecommunicators to transfer 9-1-1 calls quickly and accurately when they are misrouted.
