My name is Leigh Hickman, and I have been the Plant Operations Manager at Concord Hospital for the past two years. I began my career at Franklin Pierce University in 2001, and spent the following years earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and advancing from an Environmental Services Technician (ES) to ES Manager to Assistant Director of Facilities. I have always enjoyed working in Facilities as it has presented opportunities to learn a wide variety of skills while helping others and having a direct influence in the workplace. The transition to Healthcare has been challenging but I work with an incredibly smart and dedicated team who have been essential to my development.
Additionally, Learning Healthcare and the physical environment is a lifelong journey, and I take comfort knowing there is a large network of professionals dedicated to helping each other. Organizations like NEHE’s have been instrumental in my progression. Attending conferences and online training has allowed me to learn a great deal in a small amount of time and has also provided an endless network of professional contacts. The answer to any question is only a phone call away and that speaks volumes.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two sons. Both boys play baseball and travel all over New England and beyond, so we are busy most of the year with that. Otherwise, we enjoy camping with family and friends. I also volunteer at our local Cal Ripken Baseball Organization. I love giving back to the local community and helping the development of our youth.
