The U.S. Department and Urban Development (HUD) recently released the Family Options Study, which studied the impact of housing and service interventions for homeless families over a three-year period. According to HUD, the study proves that long-term housing assistance vouchers are the most effective means to reduce homelessness and improve outcomes for children and families. However, critics question the methodology of the study, noting that it fails to adequately evaluate the role and impact of service interventions.

The number of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren is going up and increasingly it’s because their own kids are addicted to heroin or prescription drugs, or have died from an overdose. For some, it’s a challenge with little help available.

The Comprehensive Youth Justice Amendment Act of 2016 unanimously passed in D.C. and is set to go to the mayor and congress for final consideration. The bill bars detaining juveniles for status offenses and placing youth in adult facilities. It also prevents placement of unsupervised children into detention facilities before fact-finding or dispositional hearings.
