While the top challenges associations face have remained consistent through the years, the order
in which association's prioritize these issues shifted more than years past, according to the 2022 Association Benchmarking Report. "Communicating member benefits effectively" rose to the top of the list of association concerns for only the second time in our 11-year study, which means associations see the need to engage with members as their highest priority. Meanwhile, "combating information overload/cutting through the clutter" fell from the top spot this year, as associations improve at developing strategies that
elevate relevant content and meet their members' needs.
The long-term impacts of the pandemic, including economic uncertainty, workforce development and a renewed focus on social justice issues, can also be seen throughout the list of top association concerns. "Generating non-dues revenue," "improving member attendance," "launching DEI efforts" and "implementing career centers" garnered selection by 2022 respondents.
