Education / Training
Many companies don’t have the financial or personnel resources needed to conduct a safety climate
assessment or create the safety management policies and procedures needed to effectively carry out
safety climate improvement recommendations. Until all construction companies have the opportunity to
measure their safety climate and strengthen it using effective safety management tools, the industry will
continue to experience high levels of poor safety and health outcomes.

To help address this, CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training (www.cpwr.com)
brought together eleven safety professionals from small and medium-sized construction companies
across the country to help develop the web-based Safety Climate-Safety Management Information
System (SC-SMIS).
