Association News
This is the last week to get your entries in for the 2020 NAWIC Builds Excellence in Construction Awards! Submissions are due no later than May 1, 2020. We recently did a live-stream discussion with Rita Brown, North Central Region Director, covering all the pertinent information about the awards. On April 23, we held a Virtual Town Hall to allow members the chance to get to know and pose questions to the 2020-21 National Officer Candidates. Our Town Hall was a great success, and we are so thankful to our amazing candidates and to PNP Sandy Field for moderating. If you missed the Town Hall, don't worry! You can watch the recording here.  Team Rubicon is a nonprofit that uses the skills and dedication of veterans, training them (and other volunteers) to respond to disasters and help communities in need — at no cost to those they help. In exciting news, Team Rubicon will be holding a panel discussion at our 65th Annual Conference in Houston this year. During this #NAWICAC2020 session on Friday, Aug. 14, you'll be able to meet members of Team Rubicon and learn about their mission. In the meantime, be sure to visit their site and see some of the amazing things they are accomplishing through the sweat equity of volunteers like YOU! The American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law (ABACLG) has put together a COVID-19 Leadership Roundtable Special Forum Crisis Series. These free webinars take place at 4 p.m. ET on the dates noted, and all industry leaders and lawyers are welcome! Mark your calendars now! Additionally, recordings of already completed sessions will be available on the webinar page of the NAWIC site.

Industry Update
A large share of construction firms promptly received loan funds under the new Paycheck Protection Program, enabling many of them to hire or retain employees despite a surge in project cancellations, according to a survey released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Renovation projects in or near hospitals require contractors to work by a specific set of protocols in order to protect the health of patients, many of whom are extremely vulnerable to infection. According to recent research, though, some construction companies that take on these types of projects are not providing adequate training to their workers and subcontractors on how to avoid creating the jobsite conditions that could have a negative impact on patients.
