Learn about NAPFA’s peer-to-peer networking group

By Drew Feutz, NAPFA Genesis Chair

This month’s “From the CEO” column features a guest post from NAPFA Genesis Chair Drew Feutz. The next “From the CEO” column will be written by Interim CEO Leslie Stokes.

When I was told that NAPFA Genesis had been given space for a column about we are up to, that the NAPFA Advisor has never run a Genesis column, and that I could include whatever I’d like … I was a little intimidated and wondered what should be included in the first-ever Genesis column. I landed on the three topics I discuss below.

I want you to know about Genesis because it contributes so much to members. For me, it has been a great way to connect with a community of my peers with whom I can feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, and learning about how other firms work. Many young advisors in NAPFA work for smaller businesses and may not feel comfortable speaking/asking within their company about the things that are on their minds. Genesis is a great place to bring up those topics and learn from others’ perspectives on them.

What is Genesis?

NAPFA Genesis is a peer-to-peer networking group designed to encourage professional growth and development among NAPFA members who are age 33 and younger. All NAPFA members 33 and under are automatically enrolled in Genesis, making about 700 members as of summer’s end. Genesis’ budget is funded solely by a sponsorship from NAPFA Resource Partner LLIS, which makes possible the activities described below.

Genesis 2021–2022 year in review

Genesis presents its year in review at every NAPFA Summer Leadership Meeting.

In the 2021–2022 fiscal year, Genesis:

  • Hosted seven educational webinars, which are free to Genesis members, courtesy of LLIS
  • Hosted three conversation circles
  • Launched five MIX groups
  • Awarded multiple scholarships to conferences and symposiums
  • Hosted a community meeting and social event exclusively for members at every NAPFA conference

2022–2023 initiatives

During this fiscal year, Genesis intends to continue to help support NAPFA’s strategic drivers of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as professional excellence. We will do this through relevant webinars, unique MIX groups, and supportive conversation circles that allow members to share knowledge and best practices. Our scholarship programs will also continue.
