Engineers and academics alike will provide a one-year update from the Balanced Mix Design Implementation Working Group (BMD IWG) on June 4, sharing the key accomplishments, insights, and next steps in advancing BMD.

Established to facilitate collaboration among NAPA members, agencies, and academia to address both technical and managerial challenges associated with BMD, the Working Group will highlight major deliverables, including:

  • Balanced Mix Design Guidance – A practical tool outlining the engineering, economic, and environmental impacts of different BMD strategies, helping contractors make informed decisions.

Members of NAPA’s Engineering, Research, and Technology, Meetings, and Membership teams toured the FMC lab and crushing facility, as well as the District’s only batch asphalt mix plant and a drum plant that was converted in 2008.

The NAPA 2025 Midyear Meeting will be held in Kentucky this summer from July 8-11.

Running midweek from Tuesday through Friday, Midyear attendees will have ample opportunity to explore the region through optional activities from bouldering and bargain-hunting to BMX and bourbon.

NAPA's Pavement Economics Committee (PEC) is looking to explore the performance of advanced asphalt materials and mix designs in high-stress applications, launching a Request for Proposals (RFP) centered on the subject.

The PEC has made up to $75,000 in funding available for this 12-month contract.

Asphalt Mix Producers are encouraged to help NAPA gather 2024 construction season data by completing these surveys by June 2.
