Remarketing Strategy
Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) increased 2.77 percent month-over-month in September. This brought the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to 134.9, which was a record high for the fifth consecutive month and a 6.3 percent increase from a year ago. On a year-over-year basis, all major market segments saw gains, including midsize cars. Luxury cars, pickups, and vans outperformed the overall market.

Make plans to attend NAFA's Great Lakes and Tri-State Chapters during the annual Fall Educational Seminar, on November 7, in Perrysburg, Ohio. This year's theme is the connected, autonomous, and electrification of transportation which continues to have a profound effect on the fleet industry. Consultant Lukas Neckermann will be the keynote speaker. Neckermann is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), Adjunct Instructor at New York University, and has lectured and taught courses to executives from over 40 countries. He is frequently called upon to present material outlined in his book, The Mobility Revolution.

Legislative News
As the federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau approaches its third year - the midpoint of its current mandate - renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) continue. The ramifications of a still highly-uncertain multi-round set of discussions will be felt by all sectors in Canada, particularly in the auto sector, and more if talks continue along their currently discouraging track.

Inside NAFA
On September 28 and 29, NAFA's U.S. Legislative Counsel Patrick O'Connor and NAFA Vice President Jeff Jeter met with individuals in Washington, D.C., to strategize legislation that will be beneficial to the fleet and mobility industry. This was part of a two-day "fly-in" that concluded with participation in congressional briefings and congressional visits.
