Back in March, I wrote to alert all NAFA Members that the Association would undertake several major data-collection projects. I write now to ask for your help in providing your feedback in the most important portion of our efforts: a survey to determine such important aspects as your motivation for joining NAFA and remaining a member of the Association; your familiarity, use and satisfaction with NAFA’s products, programs, and services; your issues of concern; and your image and overall satisfaction with the Association. NAFA has been named to the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC), as a strategic partner. In this alliance, NAFA will represent and advocate for the fleet and mobility profession in a partnership that will directly impact vehicle safety and security.

Trade Show News Network, the leading resource for the trade show, exhibition, and event industry, has named NAFA’s Institute and Expo (I&E) to its list of the 2017 Top U.S. Trade Shows. The ranking is based on net square footage of trade shows in the United States. I&E ranked number 201 of all U.S. events. The 2018 I&E is April 24-27, in Anaheim, Calif.
 
 
 
   
International Fleet Academy – Where are You? Advancing on the Mobility Continuum, takes place on Monday, April 23. Radical change is here, in the form of more sharing, greater autonomy, and an explosion of mobility technology. Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) decreased 0.15 percent month-over-month in March. This brought the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to 130.8, which was a 5.4 percent increase from a year ago and the lowest level since last July.

NAFA's New England Chapter held its March 21 meeting at the Toyota Regional Office in Mansfield, Mass. Guest speaker Stephen McGill, Research Scientist at Toyota Research Institute in Cambridge, provided an overview of the autonomous vehicle industry and technology, the current and forthcoming challenges to the marketplace, and a look into the crystal ball at the future of automated vehicles.

Features in this edition: On March 26, the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a notice and request for comment “on existing Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations that may need to be updated, modified, or eliminated to facilitate the safe introduction of automated driving systems-equipped commercial motor vehicles onto our Nation’s roadways.”
 
On April 1, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s electronic logging device mandate (ELD) went into full effect, requiring most commercial motor vehicles to have a compliant ELD in the cab to track the driver’s hours of service.
 
On April 2, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the completion of the Midterm Evaluation process for the greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars and light trucks for model years 2022-2025.
 
On April 3, the White House announced that David J. Gribbin, President Trump’s Infrastructure Advisor, would be stepping down from his post to pursue other opportunities. Gribbin is the key architect of President Trump’s $1.5 trillion infrastructure proposal, which was unveiled last February.
 
 
 
   
Features in this edition: In a continentally integrated industry such as North American automaking, rules made in one country have an impact beyond borders, and the industry in Canada has fought to achieve common North American environmental regulations to avoid disparities seen by the manufacturers as unworkable.In early April, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt announced a push to ease the stiffening of automotive fuel-economy regulations for the 2022 through 2025 model years.
