The No. 2 U.S. automaker said it is recalling 212,911 Ford Explorer SUVs and Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles from model years 2011 to 2013 because a spring that controls the interior door handle may become loose and cause the door to become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury.

When his administration stopped Tesla from selling its electric cars directly to customers at its New Jersey showrooms one year ago, Gov. Chris Christie blamed the state Legislature for writing the law he said forced him to act. Now the Legislature has acted to change that law, with the state Senate giving final legislative passage to a bill that would allow Tesla to restart sales at its two New Jersey showrooms, and to open two more.

GM is planning to launch the 2016 version of Chevrolet’s Malibu. The car is important to GM because, if the Malibu were to be successful, it would enter the midsize sedan segment, the largest new-car segment in the U.S., and one in which the company has been previously outdone by a number of foreign car brands such as Hyundai, Honda, and Toyota.

Vacuum manufacturer Dyson has invested $15m in an innovative energy storage company that could potentially provide electric cars with cheaper, lighter, and more powerful batteries that could run 600 miles on one charge.
