NAFA CHAPTER NEWS
Thanks to the efforts of NAFA’s Rocky Mountain Chapter, a holiday in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy was made a little lighter. The Chapter collected money and gift cards at their year-end meeting in December. Using the Rocky Mountain funds, Deputy Executive Director Patrick McCarren was able to donate to the Squan Strong relief fund in Manasquan, NJ.

On December 7, NAFA Québec held its annual holiday supper at the McCord Museum in downtown Montreal. Over 60 Members and Affiliates had the opportunity to network, visit the museum, and enjoy a great meal in company of friends and colleagues. The participants also brought great joy and smiles to needy children aged 2 to 11 by offering over 80 presents to the Maison Internationale de la Rive-Sud (MIRS), a not for profit organization, who then distributed these gifts during their Christmas party.

The NAFA Pacific Southwest (PSW) Chapter gathered on December 4 at the ESPN Zone LA Live restaurant for food, presentations, and a brief stroll over to the Los Angeles Convention Center for the 2012 LA Auto Show. The meeting was in conjunction with the Chapter's Christmas party get-together.

While the biggest news came from preventing the country from going over the "fiscal cliff", the U.S. government also played a significant role in the direction of fleet vehicles for the near future with the bill signed into law on January 1. That bill contained the i>Extension of Alternative Fuels Excise Tax, an incentive that helps justify the use of biodiesel and alternative fuel vehicles for thousands of fleets.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has missed its deadline to release rules spurring automakers to outfit more cars and trucks with backup cameras. It is the latest delay of the rear-visibility standard for light vehicles, which Congress ordered in 2007 to prevent accidents in which drivers back over and injure or kill children.

AAA said, in a news release, that it is supporting the National Transportation Safety Board's recommendation of ignition interlocks. According to the organization, more than nine in ten drivers consider it a serious threat to their personal safety when others drink and drive, and nearly all (97 percent) surveyed find it unacceptable for a driver to get behind the wheel when they have had too much to drink.

The Ford Focus appears to have toppled the long-running global best-seller, the Toyota Corolla. Ford Motor Co. expects to sell 2.2 million Ford brand vehicles in the U.S. when sales numbers are totaled for 2012. It will make this the second straight year Ford has topped the two million mark.

ASSOCIATION TIPS
According to a new survey, while 99 percent of drivers had at least one emergency supply in their vehicle, such as spare tire or jumper cables, a mere nine percent carried all the essential emergency roadside supplies. Survey findings also revealed that sedan drivers are less likely to carry emergency supplies compared to SUV and truck owners.

Global fleet services provider ARI, together with its parent company Holman Automotive Group, donated $6,000 to the Food Bank of South Jersey in support of their efforts to serve those in need. Holman Automotive Group also successfully collected and donated 3,189 pounds of food as a result of its "Drive For Food" held throughout the month of December at its seven dealerships in southern New Jersey, its corporate headquarters, Steward Financial Services, and ARI.
