Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) rose by one percent in the month of October. The October Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index stood at 121.9, which represented a 0.7 percent decline from a year ago.

Used-vehicle prices are expected to increase in the near term after Hurricane Sandy destroyed thousands of vehicles. The National Automobile Dealers Association is predicting that prices of used vehicles up to 8-years-old will increase from 0.5 percent to 1.5 percent as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

A study has confirmed what many in trucking already believed -- that there's a direct connection between a truck driver's crash risk and his or her body mass index. Obese truckers, during their first two years on the road, are 43 percent to 55 percent more likely to be involved in a crash when compared against those truckers with a normal BMI.
