NAFA is saddened to learn of the death of Jim Perkins, CAFM due to cancer on August 16, 2018. Perkins was the owner of North of 49 Consulting and the former Superintendent of Fleet Services at Metro Vancouver.

For more than 30 years, Perkins worked as a franchise owner, service manager, and public service fleet manager. He was a recognized leader in sustainability, emissions, and the environmental impact of transportation. Jim has been a guest speaker both nationally and internationally including speaking engagements with Fleet Challenge Ontario, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, NAFA, and Electric Mobility Canada.

A long-time NAFA member and volunteer at the chapter and national levels, Perkins' sense of humor and dedication were evident whether instructing or doing Committee work. He has acted as Chair of the Western Canada Chapter and taught many Fleet Management Seminars and Boot Camp courses for the CAFM program. He was also involved in committee work for Electric Mobility Canada and the British Columbia Institute for Technology.

His passion for the fleet industry is only eclipsed by his passion for family. He is remembered by NAFA colleagues for his heartfelt stories about family times, his beloved granddaughter and his recent European trips. Our condolences to family and friends as we remember Perkins' many contributions to the fleet industry, his impact on his peers, and what he meant to the collective membership of the Association.
