NAFA's Alabama Chapter held its annual Southern Regional Conference recently (October 15-18) in Orange Beach, Ala. This event always proves to be a great week of education, networking, and camaraderie for all attendees, and this year’s conference was no exception.

The event provided opportunities to network with peers, experience the latest products and technology available to fleet managers, and learn about important aspects of the fleet management profession. NAFA Alabama Chapter Chair Darren Davis welcomed attendees before they made their way to a variety of different sessions. These presentations covered topics such as the importance of testing fuel and how to perform effective background checks.

The first day also featured a session, "Active Shooter – Run, Hide, Fight," that was a very popular seminar. It showed attendees what to do and how to handle themselves, should they ever be in an active shooter situation.

A vendor expo taking place on both days allowed service providers to showcase their products.

On day two, Tom Johnson of The 100 Best Fleets organization spoke about the best practices used by the top 100 fleets in the industry in 2017. Later, Mark Bentley, Executive Director for the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition (ACFC), held a session on the recent Volkswagen settlement and the new opportunities for clean fuels it creates for Alabama. The presentation provided an overview of the $14.9 billion settlement, and how that money will be divided up and spent.

The session also outlined how the ACFC is working within the state and its stakeholders regarding this settlement. They are also developing recommendations and offering to assist with the development and implementation of the plan.

Events such as the Alabama Chapter's Southern Regional Conference continue to provide value and education to fleet professionals year after year, and make a strong case for why your connection to your NAFA Chapter is such an important benefit of your membership.
