Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is set to recall nearly 75,000 vehicles because of potential powertrain problems. The vehicles affected are the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300, both from the 2014-17 model years. The cars in question are equipped with all-wheel drive and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says are subject to recall because the bolts on the cars' front driveshafts were not manufactured properly.

NHTSA says that, over time, these bolts can loosen and cause the front driveshaft to become disconnected. This could result in a couple of serious issues for owners - namely some serious damage to the vehicle, as well as a sudden loss of drive.

However, before this occurs there will most likely be some very apparent warning signs. Specifically, NHTSA notes that drivers will notice an unusual amount of noise and vibration before the bolts fail. FCA says that they don't know of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.

Of the nearly 75,000 AWD Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s affected, 69,298 are registered in the United States, while 5,312 are in Canada and 347 are located outside of North America.

Fiat Chrysler expects to begin mailing recall notices by March 31. After affected owners receive their notice, they can make a service appointment with their local dealership. All eight of the front driveshaft bolts will be replaced at no cost to owners.

Any owners with further questions are encouraged to call Fiat Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and ask about recall T03. You can also call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 and inquire about safety campaign #17V097000.
