GM Recalling Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, And Sister SUVs Due To Steering Issues

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), GM is recalling close to 4.8 million of it's pickups and SUVs due to a potential steering malfunction created by some bad welding. This recall includes the 2016-17 Chevy Silverado 1500, the 2016 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, the 2016 GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL, and the 2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

These models may suffer from an issue in the form of some bad welds on the upper control arms  near the control arm bushings. These welds have the potential to break, causing the control arm "to separate from the bushing, increasing the risk of a crash," according to the NHTSA website.

The parts to make the necessary repairs are currently unavailable, however, GM mailed out notifications of the recall to affected owners earlier this month. When parts become available, GM will mail out another notice informing owners of this news and prompting them to schedule a service appointment at a local dealer.

GM will be replacing the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicles free of charge.

Until this fix is made, NHTSA recommends that any affected vehicles not be driven.
