Open Network of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Launched in Ontario

Plug’n Drive, a non-profit organization promoting the adoption of electric vehicles to maximize their environmental and economic benefits, has announced the unveiling of Charge My Car on the Road, an open network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The network, which will serve Ontario’s drivers, is supported by Greenlots, a company that designs and delivers charging networks for electric vehicles.

Currently, many of the public charging stations in Ontario are difficult to find and many times can only be used by members with a special access card. By collaborating with Greenlots, Charge My Car stations can be accessed by any smartphone or tablet through the use of Greenlots’ open source platform. This initiative will facilitate finding a station and paying to park and charge will be much more convenient.

A true advantage of this network is accessibility for all EV drivers. Ensuring that Ontario’s network is interoperable with systems in other provinces across Canada, a nation-wide network is possible and will permit drivers to use the stations in any city, municipality, or province, eliminating the need to carry a variety of special access cards.
