Electric Vehicles Conference and Trade Show Scheduled for This Fall

Hydro-Québec and Electric Mobility Canada have jointly announced that the Electric Vehicles Conference and Trade Show, EV2012VÉ, will take place this year at the Montreal Convention Centre from October 23-26.

Highlights of the 2012 conference will include new business opportunities for the wide variety of electric transportation available, including new electric vehicle (EV) models and public charging infrastructure. The conference will also provide an ideal location for members of the general public to view first-hand the new EV technologies that are out there.

Exhibit participants will include government agencies, suppliers, EV service industry professionals, provincial and municipal public services, fleet managers, and others.

City of Vancouver Showcases Greenest Municipal Fleet in Canada

The City of Vancouver has added thirteen new Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric vehicles to its fleet, making it the greenest municipal fleet in Canada. Announced in August by Mayor Gregor Robertson at City Hall, the new vehicles will ensure that the City will lower its carbon footprint, reduce costs on fuel and maintenance, and uphold efficient service delivery across the City.

Mayor Robertson, joined by Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada President and CEO, Shin Fujioka, and Vancouver Park Board Chair, Sarah Blyth, unveiled the first seven vehicles. The remaining six vehicles will be delivered by the end of the year.

Eleven of the i-MiEVs will be in use by the City department. The remaining two vehicles will be for Park Board use. The City’s electric vehicle fleet includes:
  • Sixteen i-MiEVs, with up to seventeen more to be purchased in 2012
  • One Nissan Leaf
  • Two electric scooters
  • Eight ice re-surfacers
  • Twenty-three utility vehicles
  • Three lift units
  • Eight electric bikes
It is projected that with this new purchase, the City will save $20,800 per year in fuel and maintenance costs. Additionally, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 29,000 kilograms per year. Also a component of the City’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, there are currently six electric vehicle charging stations in place, with a total of at least sixty-seven expected by the end of 2013.
