The Petroleum Quality Institute of America (PQIA) issued a "Don't Buy" alert regarding Bullseye Motor Oil on April 25. According to PQIA, use of this product can cause significant damage to car engines.

More than a year after first reporting on serious issues with a sample of Bullseye Motor Oil purchased in Michigan, PQIA tested another sample of Bullseye purchased in Phillipsburg, NJ on March 19, 2012. Once again the sample tested is far off specification and potentially damaging to car engines. In fact, PQIA says test data on this sample indicate it may contain used engine oil and a significant level of engine damaging abrasives.

The organization first became concerned about Bullseye Motor Oil when it purchased quart bottles of 10W-30 at a convenience store in Sturgis, MI in January of 2011. The product was so far off industry specifications that it was believed it could cause serious damage to engines. As a result, PQIA issued a Consumer Alert advising of the potential dangers in using this engine oil.

Six months later the organization purchased another sample of Bullseye in Austintown, OH, this time a 5W-30. The test results showed this product bore no resemblance to a 5W-30 engine oil, and again PQIA issued a Consumer Alert warning of the potential damage this product can cause to an engine.

Over a year later, convenience stores are apparently still stocking the shelves with this particular brand of oil. Further, the sale of Bullseye Motor Oil is not isolated to Michigan, Ohio, and New Jersey. PQIA understands the brand is also on retail shelves at convenience stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New York. And in some cases it is the predominate brand on the shelf. For these reasons, PQIA issued a Don't Buy status for Bullseye Motor Oil.

Bullseye Motor Oil is manufactured by Bullseye Automotive Products, Inc., Dolton, IL. Consumers who have any questions or concerns regarding this brand can contact the Petroleum Quality Institute of America at 732-640-6797.
