Ontario Government Continues with Electric Vehicle Initiatives

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has highlighted his government’s continued work on electric vehicle initiatives, announcing the availability of electric car charging stations.  The widespread availability of these stations will make it more convenient and encourage families to select electric cars.

Announced in Markham, Ontario, Premier McGuinty charged an electric car at the PowerStream electrical utility operations center.  The Premier also announced an $80 million fund to stimulate the development in electric car-charging stations.

The Government of Ontario remains committed to getting more electric cars on the roads, helping families save money, and helping the environment.  Green incentives are already in place for those who purchase electric cars, such as $5,000 to $8,500 cash and "green license plates".

Moving forward, the Government of Ontario will invite public and private sectors to submit proposals to build, test, and increase the availability of recharging facilities.
