Former NAFA Chapter Chair Stan Liebowitz Passes

Stan Liebowitz, who served two terms as the Chair of the New Jersey Chapter of NAFA during the 1990s, passed away on September 25 at the age of 68. Liebowitz, who was retired from Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (now known as Panasonic Corporation of North America), was thought of fondly by his fellow Chapter members.

"Stan was dedicated to the New Jersey NAFA chapter, serving as the Chapter Vice Chair and then Chair," said Donna Bibbo, CAFM. "He worked tirelessly to provide interesting meetings so that the chapter would stay vibrant and growing. Even after he was done as Chapter Chair, he was always available to help out in any way he could."

In an article published by Fleet Financials, Frank Memolo said, "Stan had many friends in the fleet industry. He had a big heart and was always helping other fleet managers and fleet suppliers." Memolo worked with Liebowitz from 1986-2004 and is the current fleet manager at Panasonic.

Liebowitz originally started at Matsushita in 1969 in the company's accounting department. He would later create the fleet department at Matsushita and serve as fleet manager from 1979 until retiring in 2004 -- a period in which the company's corporate fleet experienced tremendous growth.

Liebowitz was laid to rest in a graveside service on Sunday, October 3, 2010. He is survived by his three sons.

"Stan was a friend to all and a mentor to many," added Bibbo. "He was always willing to give his insight into any topic that you asked him to; and he had a great sense of humor. I can recall many functions where he would volunteer even though he was putting himself up for being laughed at. A particular meeting in Atlantic City involving Stan in a mask on stage comes to mind and still makes me laugh. He was my good friend, and I will miss him greatly!"
