Learn About the "Connected Pilots" Program From the FHWA and the U.S. DoT at NAFA's I&E

On Friday, April 27, at NAFA's Institute & Expo (I&E), join leaders from the Federal Highway Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation for a discussion on the DOT’s “Connected Pilots” program and how it will change your fleets.

In the near future, fleet vehicles will be able to see things that their drivers can’t, such as another vehicle suddenly braking two or three cars ahead, a car about to run a red light, or even a pedestrian crossing the street. These fleet vehicles (taxis, trucks, buses, delivery vans, etc.), will able to communicate wirelessly with each other as well as with traffic signals, work zones, and even cell phones.

Edward Fok, Transportation Technology Specialist, U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration, will present an overview of the Connected Pilots program, which features truck and taxi fleets in New York, Florida, and Wyoming that are taking the lead to deploy this exciting new technology. He will be joined by Walter During, Transportation Specialist, Federal Highway Administration; and Bryan Wenger, Equipment Program Manager, Wyoming Department of Transportation.

This session will help I&E attendees learn the basics of connected vehicle technology and how this technology can help fleet operators to minimize crashes, operate more efficiently, and curb pollution. Understand how the U.S. Department of Transportation is piloting connected vehicle technology in real-world environments and how this research will benefit fleet operations of all sizes. Identify the myriad connected vehicle applications currently being developed and tested by the federal government, including applications that are specific to fleets.
